Awesome plugin, does exactly what it’s meant to do and more. I was using the obsolete Post Image by Kaf Oseo and as soon as I saw this one, I didn’t think twice about dumping Post Image.
I have a question. How do I assign NO LINK at all to a thumbnail? I’m using the WordPress query_posts function to create a list of latest posts of a certain category and when I call Post-Thumb, its link disables/overrides the of my query, and only the thumbnail will be clickable. How do I disable Post-Thumb link? Thanks!
mars 13th, 2008 at 21:56
Just an addition:
***Its link disables/overrides the_permalink of my query.***
Forgot I can’t post php code here, sorry.

One more question. Is it possible to have a different thumbnail from the image that’s in the post? I know Post-Thumb scans the post for images, but how about having a different thumbnail for the post.
i.e. on the Home page the chosen thumbnail and in the post a different image.
I tried to write a post, upload an image (for the thumbnail), but didn’t send it to Editor, and then I uploaded another image, but this time I sent it to editor. It didn’t work, how can I approach this? Thanks!
mars 14th, 2008 at 2:52
There is currently no simple way to assign no link. The way to do it is using “object” parameter:
<?php $t = get_thumb("object=1&...other parameters..."); ?><img src="<?php echo $t->thumb_url; ?>" alt="<?php echo $t->title; ?>" />Now, if you want to link to the post, you can do it.
<?php $t = get_thumb("link=p&...other parameters..."); ?>This will link the thumbnail with the permalink.
To have different thumbnails, check this: http://code.google.com/p/post-thumb-revisited/wiki/TricksAndHints

I see not only that Post-Thumb is a great plugin, but also that it has a very good support. Thanks for providing the solutions so quick. The object=1 worked just fine here. As for the second solution (regarding different thumbnails) I had no luck. Maybe I did something wrong. I’ll read the whole documentation and try again. I’ll come back to share the result.
Thank you very much alakhnor!

Basically, you can use the parameter “subfolder=newfolder”, which will (hopefully if your server let it do) create the folder and save thumbnails in it.

Hi,
I was going to update to 2.2.1b but then noticed that wordTube has updated to 1.6 as well.
Just to be sure, is it compatible with your newest version?
Cheers

In short, yes.

hello alakhnor,
1) I have updated my old plugin (1.7 i think !) to the last one, but then my thumbs are all using the defaut image… i changed nothing to the settings so i don’t understand…
Me too i would like to use a specific thumbnail of my choice, for each post but i don’t know how to do, i checked the wiki but i see nothing related to this, can you elaborate on this ?
thx

Thanks for the most useful plugin ever!
I have started feeling anxious as wordpress 2.5 is going to be released soon and i won’t be able to live without your plugin.
I just wanted to ask if you are working on a 2.5 compatible version.
Regards
mars 22nd, 2008 at 6:48
nlx>A lot has changed since 1.7 ^^. You need to go to “options” and probably fill in many new options. And most, you have to generate a table which contains some useful data (first page of options).
To use a specific thumbnail, the only way is to use metadata. Use “pt_meta_thumb” in additional fields (post edit screen) then just input the url to the image you want to use (and “Use metadata” needs to be checked in options).
wordy>current version is compatible. I may have a few things to change to use some features, but that’d be only improvments.

Is there an option that link a thumb to the post m8?
mars 24th, 2008 at 15:14
Yes, use “link=p” in the parameters.

Wow, man! Thanks very informative para you have there!
Thx
mars 30th, 2008 at 15:47
Hi dude,
I ended up disabling it as it totally slow down the site. Even I now testing it in localhost, it still gives me a very slow process.
Any fix, please?
Thx
mars 31st, 2008 at 0:31
It might be slow when the thumbnails are being created. It shouldn’t be otherwise.
avril 4th, 2008 at 12:07
hi i have a problem, i activate the pluggin but he did not show any images what should i do?
avril 4th, 2008 at 12:11

avril 4th, 2008 at 17:31
Hi alakhnor,
Thank you so much for this great plugin! It works just great on my website.
Just a quick question though, is there any way to convert this plugin into a widget? The idea would be to embedded the images+links into a widget I could add to my Netvibes / iGoogle page. In that way, a click on an image would open the related article on the website.
Do you think that it is realistic and possible?
Thank you,
Clement
avril 4th, 2008 at 23:48
Alin>what have you done beside activating the plugin? have you changed your theme template?
Clement>I’m not sure of how it could be done. Maybe with a custom rss feed which would be linked to your netvibes page.
avril 5th, 2008 at 18:38
All right. I’m going to check what can be done and get back to you if by any chance, I find something. @++

Hi
Thanks a lot for a great plugin - doing just what I’ve been looking for. It loads a bit slower - even after the thumbs are created, but I believe it’s worth it
Just want to add in, that to make the thumbnail link to the post, I had to use this code in the template where I wanted the thumb to appear:
”
Maybe obvious to you hand-coders, but not to me - and its certainly different from the other example above.
I also had to create a thumbs folder manually on the server - maybe due to some restrictions at my host.
And, without any image in a post, it displays the post’s title with a permalink instead.
Just to give you some input.
Thanks again
Kjetil
- testing it out on my new WP Dolcevita.no.

Sorry, the code fell out - trying again with code tags:

Hi,
I am using your plug-in for a long time and it was working wonderful until Wordpress 2.5 came out. Currently it is not able to creat thumbnails for picture but only for videos what is really strange. Also the test image could be created.
Is there a solution for this problem? I don’t want to stop using this addon
Best,
Carmen
avril 13th, 2008 at 23:53
I guess that’s because of the image insertion using the attachment system. I’ll have to go through this.
mai 7th, 2008 at 7:18
Hi alakhnor,
I’m still on this version. Just too busy trying to change my blog design and functions.
And so here is yet another question.
How can I make the title to show next to (right hand side of) the thumb (i.e. not below the thumb) in the sidebar for pt-recent and pt random?
Thanks.
mai 7th, 2008 at 22:31
The basic would be something like:
#pt-recent>ul>li { width: 200px; height: 80px; }#pt-recent ul li ul { float: left; width: 120px; }
#pt-recent ul li a img { float: left; }

hello Alakahor, I use the (display and playlist separatly) function…the function you gave me did not work at all. THANKS….can you help me to figure out??
mai 16th, 2008 at 3:39
Hi,
Thanks for your reply but I’m still not getting this right
I’m using the below code to put an image of 150×100 floating left with the title on the right hand side. In the sidebar of 300px width that is.
<?php the_recent_thumbs(’link=p&width=150&height=100&limit=10&OFFSET=0&LB_effect=0′); ?>
But when I do this, the title appears at the bottom of the image and the title length is also 150.
Sorry to be bothering you about the same thing time after time…
Cheers

You need to be careful about the padding, it will be added to the specified width. For instance, if you have a padding of: {padding: 10px} for the ul containing the text and you specify 150px, the actual size of the box will be 170px (150 + 2×10) so it won’t fit into the 300px wide of the sidebar with the 150-wide image and be put above it. Have you set it somewhere on your site I could see?
mai 17th, 2008 at 2:44
Yes, they are in the sidebar of any single pages.
Right now they are a mixure of witdh 300px and 160px…

This makes maintaining my photo blog a lot easier. I’m using it for my website’s gallery and random image sections; I wrote about the implementation in this article: Dynamic Galleries and Random Images for Wordpress Photoblogs. Thanks so much for the great software!

The version 2.2.1.b I downloaded from “WordPress plugins” official wesite has some minor issues: the files
post-thumb-template-library.php
post-thumb-widgets.php
still have the old version number. Therefore, the update manager of WordPress keeps to warning that those two pieces of the plugin are not updated, whereas they actually are.
Bye.

Richard>By the way, Post-Thumb is also supposed to thumbnail post containing gallery2 gallery
Nemo>Thanks for the input. I’ll change this asap.

I just added the slideshow widget which is a really addition, but somehow it only displays the default image, is there other settings that needs to be set out of the box to make it work? (my site is nsfw)

Hello,
Thank you for this great plugin. I have had the chance to use PT a couple of times in various projects and it worked great. But for some odd reason, on a fresh install of WP 2.5.1, I couldn’t get the test thumbnail to get created. I get the same message “Cannot create test thumbnail” after having activated the Plugin and going in the settings.

Perhaps you could suggest where this is coming from, as I don’t have any other plugins installed and don’t have a clue where to look to fix this. Thanks in advance.
mai 23rd, 2008 at 8:04
It’s probably something in the security configuration of the server or maybe some redirection. These are usually what prevent from creating thumbnails. Which is your host?
mai 23rd, 2008 at 19:59
Hello,
Thank you for the quick answer. I have tried both on my local server and with my host ‘Mediatemple’… Thanks for your help.
mai 24th, 2008 at 0:17
I checked the pt slideshow folder, aside from the default image’s thumb no other thumbs were generated.
juin 3rd, 2008 at 21:58
I just tried deleting the whole plugin, and the upload folder, then reinstall the plugin from scratch, but still the pt slideshow widget only shows the default image.

hi, nice wordpress plugin here!
however, i met with a slight problem which is like on this page
http://nbnl.globalwhelming.com/2008/06/08/when-art-comes-alive-the-artist-is-the-creator/
please scroll down to the recent articles, the thumbnails of the individual posts are not generated whereas some are. The problem which i found out when i hover over the thumbnail is as such.
If the thumbnail is working. it will be something like http://nbnl.globalwhelming.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/diet_coke_mentos.jpg
If the thumbnail is NOT working, it will be something like
http://nbnl.globalwhelming.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/tila-tequila.jpg‘><img src=
which is, wierd :\
